Well, I've built myself a perl-5.8.0 (bit tardy on that score),
and... nothing.

bzip2 -cd data/log.txt.bz2 | \
  /export/home/martyn/opt/perl-5.8.0/bin/perl-5.8.0 \
  ./cvs2cl.pl --stdin --stdout >/dev/null

generates absolutely no errors/warnings for me. :-(

So...

What are your perl compilation options? Do you have any locale settings in
force? Have you tried this on a different system? (and what is the system
you're using)?
